If our President were white, would you still approve?

Let me start off by saying, it is truly amazing and wonderful that we finally elected an African American president. I will be equally as excited once we have our first woman president. However, I will say that I did not vote for President Obama nor did I want Hilary Clinton to become president because I disagree with their political views. Coming from a military family, I also believe that a president should have some personal experience with the military to fully understand how a war works or how to properly stop a war. While I do believe that we need to get our soldiers home, there are certain steps that need to be taken in order to get them home properly. You can check out my hub here about my view on our soldiers coming home.
One more thing to add, I did not fully agree with President Bush nor do I think highly of him. Please do not assume that I am a supporter of him.
Now to the topic at hand. If President Obama were white and race was not an issue, would you still approve of what he is doing? He already has many controversies, which are very possibly started because of his race. The polls are slowly showing that more and more Americans are not happy with how he is handling certain situations. So why then are people still excusing his every wrong move?
Lets go over some of the controversies-
1) President Obama claimed that an uncle of his was liberated from Auschwitz (concentration camp) by the US which had actually never been liberated by the US. It was later said that he had made a mistake and meant Buchenwald.
2) In his memoir, he claimed that he read a story in Life magazine about an African American man that bleached his skin. However, Life's magazines historians say that there was never a story about that.
3) Campaign cash from slumlord Rezko. I personally don't really care about this one. People can support who they want whether they are a slumlord or not. However, if the President made choices to help this guy out in order to pay him back, then there would be issues.
4) Nuclear lobby- 2006, "Obama at first introduced a bill which made it compulsory for nuclear facilities to notify state and federal agencies of leaks." "...Obama's office later rewrote the new bill to make it favorable for Exelon and the nuclear industry, and did not do anything more because the executives of the company including its Chairman John W. Rowe raised money for Obama during his days in the Illinois State Legislature."
There are other controversies, such as the speech to the school or bailout money going to campaign contributors, but those were the main ones.
The polls today are 52.3 % approve of President Obama and 43.3 % disapprove compared to 63.3 % approve and 20 % disapprove that was at the end of January. Click here to see the site that I got my information from. It takes all the polls taken and turns it into one.
Now to President Obama being marked as a communist. It does seem that he has quite a few similar views. One hubber wrote the hob 'Top 7 Marxist Communist Policies Being Implemented By Obama Today.' Click here to read it. Thanks Hal Licino for that Hub. It was very informative.
One thing that bothered me personally is with this financial situation, the President still went on vacation. I understand that it was his own money and anyone can have a vacation if they wanted to. However, because of this financial situation, there are very few middle class people that can take a vacation themselves. I think it was the wrong time to do this and seemed a bit selfish.
Now I want you to ask yourself one question, which will probably lead to other questions. If President Obama were President Bush and Bush was making these decisions, would you agree with what he is doing? Now if your answer is no, there's another question to ask yourself. Is the media perception and our president's race altering your perception of him?
I wrote this because I have heard many of my personal acquaintances as well as people across the internet that said had they researched more into our president's politics that they never would of voted for him. However, I will say that we really didn't have all that great of choices to choose from. If you've read some of my comments, you've probably heard me say that I believe that America will not change or get better until we steer away from the democrats AND republicans as both parties are nothing but money hungry politicians that worry only about the pockets than the American people. You can read my blog by clicking here about what makes a good president.
I'd love to read your comments, good or bad, just please make sure that you read this with an open and not biased mind.
Take a poll
Do you think the President is doing a good job so far?

At this point, BO has shown the disdain he feels for the American people by allowing people to publicly and vocally attack those who do not support his policies. His attempt at a town hall meeting was laughable as he packed the house with a friendly audience. His skin color matters to me absolutely ZERO percent. Any leader who comes in and begins a wild spending spree--even though the coffers are empty--is terribly irresponsible. Also, I am troubled about the radical people he chooses as his czars. If these people are so great, why keep them in the shadows? Why not give them positions that come with legislative approval so the public can learn more about them. Finally, it is completely unforgiveable that the mainstream media is so busy adulating this guy that they forget their job. You know, they are supposed to investigate and report things. Instead, they just go on about how great he is and are so blinded by love they don't question anything!
If Obama was honoring our constitution, no matter what the mess we're in, then I would honor him. But he is making decided moves away from the foundations of our free way of life. The sooner he's out the better.
Great hub PG!
MadameX--keep singing my song. This Obamanation must be stopped before there is no freedom left in America!
I've honestly read all the comments and keep up with the news daily and as a former newspaper reporter, what I know is that politics is and always has been, a game; a game of power designed to coerce even the most hard-lined mentality to jump onto the bandwagon. In that respect I think Obama is doing an excellent job following in the footsteps that walked before him. Only time will tell whether his politics will actually lead us somewhere positive.
Great hub pageantgirl - excellent conversation
whatever you do, if you are White and Irish, do not even think about running for Mayor of Baltimore position just opened up due to conviction of the previous mayor.
Barry has no clue. He is simply a puppet of major international forces that want to pull off a "bloodless coup". He is so vain that he hasn't even got the remotest idea that he has just been insulted by the Nobel Committee for doing nothing. Basically, they're saying, well, we know you're black and we can't expect much but here's a prize for showing up.
When the coup fails, he will be disposed of by his puppet masters. In the meantime, Americans need to understand that the race issue is just a red herring. He was groomed by his Communist Mother (who woke him at 4:30 AM to initiate him) and communist grandparents and then by his mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, to have all the beliefs and tactics of a Communist agitator. That is what he is. But, just like he has a "pay czar" to ascertain the value of executives, we, the American People, who are his boss, need to evaluate his performance, and it's not good. And the on-the-job-training is way over.
And, no, his vacation was paid by the taxpayers; his impulse trip to Copenhagen cost 1 million on Air Force One, not including Michelle's separate $30,000 trip. He should have just sent Michael Jordan, not an out-of-shape Oprah Winfrey, who has nothing to do with sports.
He's out of his element, but no one can say a damn thing, because we'll be labeled "racists."
Well, I, for one, am not going to sit by and let our country, our sovereignty, our currency, our future generations, go to Hell, while Nero plays golf and drools over when he can shoot the hoops with LeBron James.
thank you very much. nice hub. I was in the Army too.
People seem to forget that Obama is HALF WHITE. I just don't like him period. It has nothing to do with his race, but rather his policies. To hate Obama because of his race would mean hating both black and white. I'm however a big fan of Herman Cain who is 100% African American. BTW, I'm a white Republican.

I'm taking a leap here ... and not because I'm a Black woman. One of the stands that the president took which raised his status in my eyes was that he did not want to be known as a president for the African-American community. We could probably debate all day about his decisions thus far and his politics. While he is the president of the United States, he's human first and he will make mistakes and tick people off because there's no way one man can please everyone. But I have a question: how easy is it to fix mistakes someone else has made? People are expecting near perfection from an eight-month leadership which is attempting to clean house from an eight-year leadership. A bit much don't you think?
